In this session you will
- Get an overview of the steps in scientific publishing.
- Identify different library resources by searching the library catalogue. Learn how to refine your search with advanced keyword searching using Boolean operators and truncation methods.
- How to avoid plagiarism using RefWorks.
- Finally you will be shown how to recognize authoritative sources for inclusion in your writing and the responsible use of these resources.
There will be a simple in-class exercise on the identification of library resources. You will be shown sample records of different publications to identify.
Assignment (unmarked): Using RefShare send a link to your instructor (dcraig@yorku.ca) with 2 references chosen for your first lab report Expt. 1. One of these can be your lab manual or text. Print out as a bibliography using the required style and hand in for your next class.
